Weekly COVID-19 Vaccine Community Newsletter – Feb. 5, 2021

Feb 6, 2021

The Regional Information Center is providing a COVID-19 vaccine community newsletter in Washoe County to help educate residents on the mass vaccination effort by the COVID-19 Response Team and community partners.

Update from the COVID-19 Response Team

The Washoe County Health District administered 4,731 COVID-19 vaccines between Jan. 30-Feb. 5, 2021 (25,489 total to date). Per the State of Nevada, the total number of vaccines administered in Washoe County is at 58,873 (14,593 second dose). The state unveiled a new vaccine dashboard that can be seen here.

Identified priority workforce from the Washoe County School District, Nevada System of Higher Education (NHSE) and childcare workforce in Washoe County have been offered the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The next group of the frontline/essential workforce is “Community Support Frontline Staff (i.e. frontline workers who support food, shelter, court/legal and social services, and other necessities of life for needy groups and individuals)” per the state’s prioritization lanes. The first phase of that group will be frontline workers who support necessities of seniors. The Health District will reach out to employers included in that group to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments.

Help get seniors vaccinated – it is a community effort

In our current phase of inoculations, COVID-19 vaccine providers in Washoe County are focused on getting the vaccine to frontline/essential workers and to seniors 70 years and older. If you know a senior in Washoe County, we encourage you to check in with them to see if they need help getting signed up for the COVID-19 vaccine, see the list of partners:

Nevada Department of Health and Human Services has launched a vaccination call center to answer questions and assist those who may need help making an appointment. The number is: 1-800-401-0946. The call center is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. The call center has bilingual staff that speak English and Spanish and also can access the language line for other languages as needed.

Make sure to fill out the questionnaire for both COVID-19 doses

When receiving the COVID-19 vaccine at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center, you must bring your completed questionnaire with you for your first AND second dose appointments for the vaccine. It is required and it will take longer to receive the vaccine if you have not completed the questionnaire beforehand. The questionnaire is sent via email when you receive an appointment reminder. The paperwork for the second dose is now being given to patients when they receive their first dose.

Side effects of the second dose

You may be hearing that the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine brings along with it some side effects.

If you experience side effects, these are normal signs that your body is building protection from the virus. They can be unpleasant, especially the second dose, but they are temporary.
