Weekly COVID-19 Vaccine Community Newsletter – March 4, 2021

Mar 4, 2021

The Regional Information Center is providing a COVID-19 vaccine community newsletter in Washoe County to help educate residents on the mass vaccination effort by the COVID-19 Response Team and community partners.

Update from the COVID-19 Response Team

Providers in Washoe County have administered 122,730 COVID-19 vaccines overall (45,612 second doses), with 16,559 occurring between Feb. 25-March 3, 2021. Visit the State of Nevada’s vaccine dashboard to see more.

Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine arrives in Washoe County

Over the weekend, a third type of COVID-19 vaccine was approved by the Food & Drug Administration for emergency use authorization, this is the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine. It is a single-dose vaccination whereas the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are each a two dose series.

About 3,600 doses of Janssen were delivered to the Washoe County Health District on Tuesday. The Regional COVID-10 Response Team is working to incorporate the vaccine into upcoming vaccine Point of Dispensing (POD) events in the area.

Janssen is the pharmaceutical company manufacturing the vaccine and is owned by Johnson & Johnson. If you receive this specific vaccine, the information on your vaccine card will read “Janssen” not “Johnson & Johnson.”

Can I choose to get the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine?

There is no way to request or guarantee which version of the COVID-19 vaccine you will receive; the one that is available the day of your appointment is the one you get.

‘Frontline Supply Chain Logistics’ workers the next priority workforce eligible to receive the vaccine

We have moved on to a new level of vaccine eligibility for Lane 1 – frontline and essential workforce. Employees of agriculture & food processing and grocery store workers may reach out to their employers for more information on scheduling an appointment. See the priority list for vaccines in the Frontline/Essential Workforce categories.

Lane 2 – Persons 65 years and older receiving the COVID-19 vaccine

The Washoe County Health District is continuing to vaccinate those 65 years and older at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. Those in the category can use the online Washoe County Senior Covid-19 Vaccine Sign Up Form or call 775-328-2427 for assistance with signing up. Due to the limited supply of vaccine, not everyone on the waiting list has been selected to schedule an appointment.

The following partners are also administering vaccine to those 65 and older with limited availability:

Mask On. Move On.

Even if you’ve received the vaccine, please continue to wear your masks, social distance and wash your hands.

Don’t forget your paperwork

When receiving the COVID-19 vaccine at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center, don’t forget to bring to your appointment the COVID-19 questionnaire. Having this printed and filled out in advance will lead to shorter wait times. The form is also sent in the email invitation to schedule your appointment.

Other providers could have similar paperwork to bring in advance so be sure to stay in touch with them for those matters.
