Washoe County Library System – Downtown Reno Library Hosts Special Story Time!

by | Jul 27, 2021

Washoe County Library System is proud to partner with the State of Nevada to host Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak for a special in-person story time event. This special event will be held in the Children’s Department of the historic Downtown Reno Library located at 301 S. Center Street in Reno on Friday, July 30, 2021, beginning at 1:15 p.m.

Governor Sisolak understands the importance of promoting literacy efforts statewide. According to Library Director, Jeff Scott, “We are thrilled to partner with the Governor to offer this special story time event and to encourage participation in the community-wide 2021 Summer Reading Challenge.”

The 2021 Collaborative Summer Library Program theme is Tails and Tales, which runs through August 31. This special programming event is focused on the development of literacy skills and preparing children for success by fostering those skills at an early age.

As a mainstay of public library services, reading programs like the Summer Reading Challenge encourage communities to use the library and develop a lifelong habit of reading. The program is open to readers of all ages, and the Governor and Library System together encourage community members to sign up today.

The browsing section of the Children’s Department at the Downtown Reno Library will be closed during the event. Event attendance is limited to parents and caregivers with children.

Media interested in attending the event are asked to email press@gov.nv.gov no later than 9 a.m. on Friday.

In addition to offering existing services such as on-site browsing and computer use and access to digital content and online resources, the Library System has a host of exciting virtual events and interactive activities planned for the duration of the Summer Reading Challenge.

Patrons can sign up in person at any library branch or download the Beanstack app to get started at home. For more information about the Summer Reading Challenge please visit washoecountylibrary.us/summerreading.
