Reno, Nevada. Feb. 19, 2016. The Washoe County Budget Division received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for Fiscal Year 2015-2016 from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. This is the 14th year Washoe County has received this award.
The Government Finance Officers Budget Awards Program is designed to encourage governments to prepare budget documents of the highest quality to meet the needs of decision makers and citizens.
“This award represents a significant achievement for Washoe County and reflects our commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting,” Washoe County Manager John Slaughter said. “I want to thank our phenomenal budget team for working hard to make sure we are transparent, clear and concise in the way we message our fiscal decisions to the community.”
To receive the budget award, Washoe County had to satisfy nationally-recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. Those guidelines are designed to assess how well Washoe County’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operating guide and a communications device.
