Reno, Nev. August 18, 2017.  Washoe County Commissioner, Kitty Jung, District 3, is not only passionate about the arts in Washoe County, she has directed funding to see them shine brightly in her District.
During the July 11, 2017 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the Commission approved Commissioner Jung’s request to direct $9,000 of her Special District Funds to light up the Space Whale in downtown Reno for one year.
“As a long-standing supporter of the arts, I was very proud to donate Washoe County District 3 funds to The Generator to light up the Space Whale in downtown Reno,” remarked Commissioner Jung. “I thank my fellow commissioners for approving the donation as a body last month.”
Led by Matt Schultz, The Generator’s mission is to help engage people in the process of creativity through education, inspiration and access to the tools and resources to build with, a mission our Washoe County Commission passionately supports.
The Space Whale was originally installed at Burning man 2016 as a centerpiece at the festival and has been featured in media from around the world, with downtown Reno serving as the first stop on a global tour.
The Space Whale dedication & lighting will take place this evening, Friday, August 18, 2017 at 8:15 p.m. at City Plaza.
