Reno, Nevada. Sept. 20, 2016. The following report highlights several important agenda items from the Washoe County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016. Videos of County Commission meetings are replayed regularly on WCTV (Charter Ch. 193). You may also watch videos on-demand online.
At Tuesday’s Board of County Commissioners meeting, Commission Chair Kitty Jung (Dist. 3) announced the process the Board will use to nominate and appoint three, vacant, state legislative seats in Washoe County for Nevada State Senate Districts 13 and 15, as well as Nevada State Assembly District 25.
“I ask that each commissioner submit a nomination for each vacant seat by Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016 at 5 p.m.,” Chair Jung said.
Individuals interested in being considered for nominations can contact the Washoe County Commissioners online or contact the Manager’s Office by calling 775-328-2000.
For more information regarding the requirements to qualify to be appointed for one of these seats, refer to NRS 218A, Section 260.
The three vacant seats will be filled at Tuesday’s regularly scheduled Board of County Commissioners meeting at 10 a.m.
In other news from the meeting, County Commissioners proclaimed September 2016 is Hunger Action Month.  More than one in every four children in northern Nevada relies on food provided by the members of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. In 2015, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada distributed more than 12.7 million pounds of food through its network of food pantries, soup kitchen, shelters and other community organizations.
“The County Commission has and will continue to give its full support to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and will partner with them to bring awareness to the hunger issue in Washoe County,” Washoe County Commission Chair Kitty Jung (Dist. 3) said. “We are so thankful for the very important work the Food Bank of Northern Nevada does for our community and commend them on a job well done.”
County Commissioners also made the following proclamations and accepted donations:

Proclaimed September 2016 as National Preparedness Month
Proclaimed September 20, 2016 as International Walk to School Day
Proclaimed Oct. 1, 2016 as Gerlach Volunteer Fire Department Recognition Day in Gerlach, Nevada
