Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space unveiled a new memorial plaque and hosted a rededication ceremony for victims of the Galaxy Airlines Flight 203 plane crash on Jan. 21, 2015 at majestic Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. View the dedication video.
The previous memorial plaque was stolen in 2013.
“I am so happy that we are replacing this plaque in honor of the victims of Galaxy Airlines Flight 203,” said Vice Chair Kitty Jung, District 3. “This is a great memorial in a beautiful park that people can come and pay their respects.”
Galaxy Airlines Flight 203 crashed moments after taking off on Jan. 21, 1985. All but one of the 71 people onboard died. The plane left the Reno-Cannon International Airport and crashed a little more than a mile into flight.
